What is a Smart Bottle?

A smart or connected bottle is a regular wine bottle equipped with an NFC tag on it.

This bottle allows digital communication with a regular physical bottle, with the help of NFC enabled mobile device. 

What is NFC?

NFC stands for Near Field Communication, it allows mobile devices to share data (in a contactless manner) with other NFC-enabled devices such as a physical wine and spirit bottle equipped with an NFC tag.  


This technology turns the physical bottle into an interactive one.

NFC enabled Android Phone or iPhone natively without the need to download any additional app. 


Interacting with a Smart Bottle has never been easier! You need to have an NFC-enabled phone (android or iPhone)  and follow these 3 simple steps!

    1. Activate the NFC reader on your phone
    2. Bring your mobile close  to the NFC Chip on the bottle 
    3. Tap!

Do I pay more when purchasing a Smart Bottle?

When purchasing through the Smart Bottle platform you do not pay more than purchasing on other platforms.


As you order the product directly from the producer. However, as every bottle is connected with an NFC, you receive unique and exclusive offers for you when tapping the tag.

With what devices should I read NFC?

Most mobile devices have integrated NFC readers. You can tap an NFC tag on android, iOS, and windows phones.

What is a Direct-to-Consumer platform

A Direct-to-Consumer platform is a platform where you order your products directly from the producer.


The producer is responsible to handle your order and the products are shipped to you directly from the wine producer to your doorstep. 

Are all bottles on this platform tagged with NFC tags?

The answer is YES.


All items on the Univerre | Smart Bottle platform are tagged with NFC (Near Field Communication) tags. This makes the products unique and identifiable.

Do I need to download an app?

No mobile app is required to be downloaded.


The Smart Bottle platform web platform is fully responsive to any device.  It will give you a mobile-like experience on any mobile device only by searching through the browser. 

What happens after tapping an NFC enabled bottle?

After tapping an NFC-enabled bottle, you will be redirected to a Landing Page for that specific product and you will be able to enjoy wine through a digital experience.

What are digital experiences?

In the recent past,  the consumption of wine had been relatively traditional and physical.


Nowadays,  many companies are working on bringing the digital experience of wine tasting. Where users can access virtual information and exclusive content about the product through an online platform. 

Order payment and deliveries
Is buying on the platform safe ?

Buying on the Univerre Smart Bottle platform is completely safe and the process is regular as in any e-commerce store. The only difference is that the bottle you will receive has an embedded NFC tag on it, to enable digital interaction with your bottle.


Your wine or spirit bottles are shipped directly from the producer. There are no wholesalers or retailers involved in the order-shipping process. 

Are the vendors accounts verified?

All producer accounts are verified prior to operating on the platform.  


All wine producers selling on the platform are producers that have a real established wine-making business, with a physical location. 

What payment methods are available?

Available payment methods are as follows:

What is the minimum order quantity for each product?

On the product detail page of the products, you will see the minimum order quantity for each product.


The minimum order quantity is based on the packaging of the wine bottles and is usually 6 bottles. However, the minimum order quantity might vary for different products. 

How are the products shipped?

Products are shipped by the producers, through their shipment partners. 


Please note the delivery times which you see on the checkout are estimated. Due to the involvement of shipping partners, the product might not always be shipped at the stated time. 

Where is my order shipped from?

All orders on this platform are shipped directly by the producer and therefore they are shipped from the winery where the wine is produced. 


If you are interested to know the location of the vendor/producer on their company profile you will be able to get the information about the address of the producer. 

How much are the delivery costs?

The delivery costs are added to the order price. The vendors on the platform offer uniform flat shipping rates. The flat rates for shipments in Switzerland are as follows:


    • Up to 4 bottles – 11.95 CHF Flat Rate 
    • Up to 6 bottles – 16.5 CHF Flat Rate
    • 6 – 12 bottles –  23.05 CHF Flat Rate

However, the vendor reserves the right to decide or change the shipping fees by applying new/different shipping fees on his store. 

What are the delivery times for my order?

The estimated delivery times of orders is between 2 to 4 working days.


As your orders are shipped directly from the wine producer, the responsibility of the order delivery remains on the wine producer. Univerre does not guarantee delivery times of products unless explicitly stated. 


Should you have any questions related to your order. You need to directly contact the wine producer through your vendor account.

How to track the status of my order?

If you have created a customer account, you can track your order through your customer account. 


If you have ordered as a guest, you will receive an email with a link that allows you to track your order.


Another way to track your order is to click on the Order Tracking Page, and enter there your order details. 

Who to contact for questions related to order status?

If you have any questions related to the order status and any questions related to the order in general, you should contact directly the producer. 

Returns and refunds
I have received wrong product what should I do?

If you have received the wrong product, please communicate this to the producers/vendor as soon as possible, to organize the returns of the products. 


You have 14 days from the date when you received your order.


If you cannot find a resolution with the vendor please contact us at hello@smartbottle.univerre.ch or through our contact form. Please note that Univerre is not authorized to receive any returns.

Which products can be returned?

You can only return orders with the wrong products.

In what forms are returns refunded?

Refunds will only be made in the form of Gift cards/Store Credits that can be used only on this platform. 


As per our GTC, you will not receive a refund. All returns will be issued in the form of a Coupon by the vendor that can be used to purchase from the same vendor on the Smart Bottle Platform.
